Situated on the busy A48 between Newport and Caldicot, opposite Parc Seymour, a distinctive pub sign depicting an old white Celtic cross (hence the name) marks out this popular venue, which was originally a cottage until converted into a pub by its then owners, a Mr & Mrs Lewis in 1881. Its style is that of a traditional country inn and it's primarily food led drawing in folk from a wide catchment area. Car parking is at the rear as is the main covered entrance which is used as storage for logs which adds to the rural feel of the place. The attractive low beamed interior with subdued lighting features much wood with some exposed stone and brick work. The presence of several fireplaces gives an impression of what the original multi-roomed layout might have looked like with several nooks and crannies, although all are linked and arranged around a central bar. Most of the furniture is understandably designed for comfortable dining but there are also sofas on which to settle into and relax with a drink. In March 2022 the pub relaunched under its new guise of a Mediterranean pub/restaurant offering a range of European dishes including gluten free and vegan options.
